Four stars! *If you want a Pacific view, this is it. *They put the toppings on top of a sandwich instead of on the bottom, bucking a really annoying trend of putting the toppings on the bottom. *The staff are generally friendly and attentive. *The cocktails are delicious. BUT! They serve cheap food-service-brand ketchup and mustard. Like this is a world-class resort that doesn't spring for Heinz. The ketchup is terrible. I didn't even eat my fries. The server, bless his heart, tried to source some Heinz for me, but came up empty. Four stars cuz how can Terranea of all places serve cheap ketchup. I'll be back with a heightened expectation for on-par ketchup.
After a nice day walking the ground at Terranea Resort we ate linner at Nelson's and celebrated a birthday. The wait staff was so friendly. They happily split a salad for us, took group pics, and treated the birthday girl to dessert. We started off with calamari & peppers. The calamari was light and deliscious. The shishito peppers were perfect. The Ceasar salad with grilled chicken was large and tasty. The anchovis were spot on. I highly recommend the seafood cobb salad. Keep in mind the photo of the salad is half of the order. We had the order split for two of us. The birthday girl had a complimentary chocolate mousse for the win. Every outdoor seat has a great view. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating including a large bar area. We went arrived for an early dinner, but apparently reservations are recommended for breakfast and dinner. The prices fit the quality, portions, and ambiance.
I would say the food is a 3.5, service is pretty good, and you're really paying for the ocean view (in a nice resort). We got 3 apps for food, 2 drinks each and the bill came out to be about $160 with tip. I'd say if you're looking for something convenient (if you're hiking in the area) or want to spend a few hours on the resort, this is a good place... but I wouldn't say it's anything really great. Just a good place for nice view. Maybe get a drink or something small, and get good food elsewhere! I still rated it 4 stars given the vibe. Dog friendly.
Updating Review 07.22.2024, Celebrated my Wedding anniversary for brunch time. Audrey sat us down, she was nice. Ordered adult beverages, fish&Chips, Rice curry with chicken and keylime pie. All was delicious. Review sweet and short. Food and Service was great. Breath taking view overseeing the ocean. Gave it 4 stars because the outdoor patio was all dirt and gravel. I wore white shoes and they got dirty. They should landscape the patio area since you are at a resort after all. Came here on a Monday. Plenty of parking. Cool ambiance. This place is on the pricey side. :)
I think Nelson's a great place to go with family visiting town, because it has a wonderful view of the Palos Verdes cliffs and beaches! The menu is not on the cheaper side, but I would say it is more affordable than the other dining options at Terranea, so you can enjoy the resort without breaking your bank. All the foods we ordered were generally good, but my favorite has to be the Lobster roll. Super buttery and soft bread with a heap of Lobster. We went on a weekday so there weren't too many people, and we were able to seat outside to enjoy the sun and the views. It is also conveniently connected to some walking trails so it is perfect for taking a walk after your meal to help you with digestion.
5 star view but 3 star food. Most if not all of the seating at Nelson's is in the patio. Nothing wrong with that when the weather is good. Gorgeous views. The menu is mostly predictable and the quality was just okay. It's a little unfortunate that the places with the views rarely follows thru with substance. Nothing about our meals was worth mentioning. The service was good and the food was served promptly. The restaurant is a 5 minute stroll from the hotel entrance. They offer a tram ride but take the stroll if weather is nice. Self parking is available but valet parking is available for $10 with validation.
The Mrs. And I had lunch today at Nelson's. It had been about 10 years since our last visit. I don't remember much about our last dining experience. I think I had a burger and I remember having ceviche. Nelson's sits perched upon a cliff at the Terranea Resort. It has sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean which is really what you're paying for. The menu is pretty extensive. There are a lot if seafood choices but if that isn't your thing there are burgers and the like. We ordered appetizers as our lunch. We started out with the ceviche which was really good. Then moved on to the Calamari and peppers. It was really good also but I don't think the Shishito peppers are necessary. Other than color they didn't add anything to the dish. The drinks we had were good. The Mrs. Had a Margarita and I had a Manhattan. Two of them actually. Drinks are kinda pricey. The Margarita was $20 and Manhattan was $22. The service we received from Martin was excellent.
